BANNED BOOK CLUB: 1984

The next Banned Book Club meeting is on Thursday, April 25 at 6:00 p.m. at the Library and on Zoom.

Our 5th book pick is 1984 by George Orwell

We will be meeting at the Library! Just listen or read the book, and we will hang out and discuss. Pizza and drinks will be provided.

This group meets monthly. Dates will be posted here and on our social media and emails to your inbox. Keep an eye out!

What is it?

This club is designed for students grades 7-12 and FINY friends and families. We will listen (or read) a different banned/challenged book each month and meet to discuss, eat snacks, and socialize. There will be two adult supervisors to help facilitate, Clifford Anderson and Mere Doyen.

Why?

By exploring books that have been banned/challenged, participants will gain insights into societal norms, freedom of speech, and censorship across different periods of American history. Plus, these are GREAT books!

Where?

At the Library and on Zoom. This club is open to people on AND off island.

Books are available on audio at Live-brary (thru FI Library), on loan, and used at ThriftBooks and Able Books, among other spots.

Please reach out to us at librarian@filibrary.org for the Zoom link
