PROGRAM DIRECTOR (Part Time)

Job Summary

The Program Director collaborates with the Library Board, the Chair of the Board’s Program Committee, and the Librarian to plan, publicize, organize, implement, and report on the Library’s Programs. They work to effectively engage our island community, attract new library members, and build greater participation through social, literary and cultural children’s, and adult programs year-round.

The position is part-time, up to 20 hours per week, starting at $25-$30/hour based on qualifications and experience. Work hours are variable, and will include regular hours on-site at the Library, Saturday mornings, and some weeknight evenings.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, plans, and executes programming that is educational, entertaining, and enriching for community members of all ages in collaboration with the Program Committee and the Librarian.
  • Hosts or supports weekly events and monthly special programs, as well as ongoing programs such as Adult Book Group, Banned Book Group, Crafts & Coffee, and Toddler Stories & Crafts.
  • Establishes the Library’s seasonal program schedules and publicizes them in a timely manner.
  • Maintains relationships with other Fishers Island organizations, such as the Fishers Island School, Museum, IPP, The Lighthouse Works, Community Center, and the Fishers Island Conservancy, to share resources and audiences and to build broader cultural programming.
  • Connects with groups and individuals to better understand how the Library can serve them.
  • Actively researches, proposes, and implements new and innovative programs suited for the Fishers Island community.
  • Works with Communications Chair to promote programs and raise awareness of the Library. Posts print calendars and flyers on bulletin boards across the Island.
  • Prepares for all programs, including arranging for presenter to be introduced, setting up venue, managing any technology required, providing refreshments when appropriate, and cleaning up afterwards.
  • Keeps records of all programs, including photographs or videos, attendance figures, costs, and evaluation of what worked well and recommended improvements for the future.
  • Attends the meetings of the Fishers Island Library Board and the Program Committee.
  • Performs other related duties as requested within agreed-upon working hours.

Candidates should hold a high school diploma or higher and be curious and creative. Experience working with Zoom, Google and Microsoft platforms is helpful. The Program Director reports to the Chair of the Program Committee and the Library President.
