Dear Fishers Island Community,

This year, the Fishers Island Library celebrates 120 years as an enduring presence in Island life. This milestone year beautifully showcased how we continue to live up to our mission to connect and support the people of Fishers Island.

Love of Reading and Storytelling
Our summer programs featured a rich array of our Fishers Island friends and neighbors sharing personal tales. Local authors Anna Noyes and Tina Sloan shared their passion for writing; adventurers Darvil McBride and Jeannie and Milli Getz told tales of their feats; and architects Bruce Kinlin and Lily Rutherfurd shared their expertise. Toddler story times and a children’s summer reading challenge inspired joy and a love of learning and sharing. Each program brought to life the rich history and perspectives of Fishers Island. As always, books were central to our program. Through the trusted guidance of Librarian Ann Banks, patrons of all ages borrowed and perused books for personal growth and enjoyment.

Lifelong Learning
We continue to offer thousands of ebooks, audiobooks, music and online services via Live-brary, which you can freely access from anywhere. Through our membership in the Suffolk Cooperative Library System, community members can not only access an extensive borrowing library, but also obtain live homework or research assistance, test prep courses, and more. The Library is developing an outreach plan to help our patrons fully realize the potential of these resources.

Year-Round Access
As we move into the colder months, the Library becomes a vital gathering place for crafters, students, and families to connect in a cozy, comfortable space. Book Club, student study groups, and Sunday Crafts and Coffee will continue through the fall and winter.

Thank you for being part of our story for the past 120 years. Together, let’s write the next chapter of our Library’s history, continuing to provide free access to knowledge, culture, and community for all on Fishers Island. Your gift, of any size, to our annual fund will ensure that our Library remains a cornerstone of Island life.

With gratitude,

Bonnie Benkard
