Join us at the Library for a conversation with Darvil McBride, the “Man Under Water” who represented the United States, and won the World Freshwater Spearfishing Championship in 2023.

Darvil McBride is a passionate spearfisher, survivalist, and waterman. He met his wife, Emily, in 2011 while racing in the ARC transatlantic sailboat race, in which they took first. He has been a director of watersports at HHC since 2009. In 2021 he successfully completed a Discovery Channel 3 week survival challenge on a show called Naked and Afraid. He has been competitive in spearfishing and has won some big tournaments including a national championship in 2021 and a world championship in 2023. Outside of the summer he practices falconry, is a rescue diver for high-speed boat races, and tries to maximize time adventuring with his 3 kids.
