FINALIST FOR THE NATIONAL BOOK CRITICS CIRCLE AWARD • ONE OF THE NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW AND THE WASHINGTON POST’S TEN BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR

“A sweeping novel about a single house in the woods of New England, told through the lives of those who inhabit it across the centuries—“a time-spanning, genre-blurring work of storytelling magic” (The Washington Post)

This magisterial and highly inventive novel from Pulitzer Prize finalist Daniel Mason brims with love and madness, humor and hope. Following the cycles of history, nature, and even language, North Woods shows the myriad, magical ways in which we’re connected to our environment, to history, and to one another. It is not just an unforgettable novel about secrets and destinies, but a way of looking at the world that asks the timeless question: How do we live on, even after we’re gone?

Feel free to BYOBeverage and a snack to share if you like.

How to become a Fishers Island Library Book Club member?

We convene our Book Club on the 4th Wednesday of each month whenever possible. Contact Abby McCall or Ann Banks, or just come to a meeting, and you will be added to the contact list. Easy!

Please invite friends who might also be interested. The more readers the better and so many people are unable to join on any given night that I don’t think we can have too many people. There are lots of book lovers on the island and it’s really nice to bring the group together. All are welcome.

Book Club members generally select the book for the following month(s) at a preceding meeting. The volunteers below have offered to suggest books, one to two months ahead to read in these months. (For example, at the February 2024 meeting the books for April and perhaps May will be presented and then the group will choose.) If you would like to help pick a book for a month, please contact Abby McCall. Other book recommendations are always welcome.
